Tackling Coronavirus (Covid-19) in Bicester – Changes in Surgery Working
In a further move designed to help combat coronavirus (Covid-19), the Langford Medical Practice is to become the location of a special coronavirus help and treatments centre. From Monday 23 March, patients from any of the Bicester GP practices who have, or are suspected to have, the coronavirus may be referred to see a doctor there and will be examined in the special conditions that are now required.
It’s very important to note that only patients who are referred to the centre by a GP first can be seen. People who consider they may be suffering from coronavirus and who have not been directly referred by a doctor will not be admitted. Patients must have an arranged appointment in order to attend the centre.
Medical staff at the centre will see referred patients who have mild to moderate symptoms of Covid-19 but anyone suffering from severe symptoms must always follow the advice found on NHS 111 online.
People with only mild symptoms should continue to self-isolate at home as advised in the national guidance.
This means that Langford Medical Practice will no longer be in use as a regular surgery until further notice. Alchester Medical Group’s other main surgery, at Victoria House on Buckingham Road, will continue as now while taking on clinical work and appointments that would have taken place at Langford. The Dispensary at Langford Medical Practice will be shut and from now on patients who were used to picking up their medicines from there will be able to collect them at Victoria House Surgery instead.
The surgeries at Bicester Health Centre and Montgomery-House Surgery will continue as now.
This important change enables GPs from right across Bicester to swiftly refer their patients with appropriate symptoms to a valuable new facility that will be there throughout the emergency.
